Experiment: going with the flow

Pink stripe, Julia Gallagher

Half way through working on this I thought it might be my final experiment with corrugated iron. It’s so difficult to work with.

I messed around with this long-thin piece and struggled to make interesting or spontaneous marks on it. The corrugations kept getting in the way.

In the end I decided to paste on a cement-thickened pink oil paint with a pallet knife, allowing the waves to dictate how the paint went down. I ended up with a patchy stripe. I quite liked the effect.

Looking at it a few days later I think it gives possibly the best impression of the half-finished skyscraper that I set out to paint.
