About
I work as an artist around my day job as a politics professor. I’ve tried my hand at many different media, including abstract painting, photography and pottery, but in 2022, I joined a mixed media class at the City Lit with the wonderful Ruth Franklin and discovered collage. It brings all the best things together: shapes, textures, colours and lots of room to experiment.
I make work in stages, building up layers of paint, drawings of everyday objects and then adding inks, coffee, oil, and whatever seems interesting on the day. The next stage involves tearing and cutting, spreading pieces all over the floor, and then lots of trial and error as I construct multiple pieces of work at the same time.
My work is never planned. The best pieces emerge when I spend time mulling over the accidents.
